Suffering from Knee Pain? Remedies and Exercises that Can Help

Dec 26, 2019
HARVARD TRAINED PAIN DOCTORS | VOTED #1 PAIN CENTER | PAIN TREATMENT SPECIALISTS
If you suffer from knee pain, you are certainly not alone. Some form of knee pain, whether frequent or intermittent, affects nearly 25% of adults in the United States alone. And for those afflicted, you know that this particular type of pain can feel excruciating at times. Knee pain remedy exercises are constantly sought after by those who are tired of living with “bad knees.”

So what exactly hastens such pain to begin with…Unfortunately there’s not one single trigger that we can point to; rather, it depends upon the person, lifestyle, activities and history. Some of those factors that do put you at risk for developing certain types of knee pain:

–        High impact activities. For instance, if you’re active in sports, especially ones in which you are putting a great deal of stress on the joints, such as basketball or soccer, this could lead to eventual issues with one or both knees.

–        Trauma. Traumatic injuries to the leg in general could definitely weaken the knee and /or force it to overcompensate under certain conditions.

–        Being overweight. The more weight you carry, the more that your body is asking of your joints, particularly your knees. Obesity is actually one of the main culprits in terms of knee joint pain causes.

–        Repetitive Motion. Perhaps given your job, you are required to undergo the same motion over and over throughout the day. After awhile this really does take its toll on your joints, especially, depending on the circumstances, your knees.

And keep in mind, this list is by no means exhaustive. There are numerous things that can occur, activities you might undertake, or simple accidents that can happen that can all contribute to problems within your knee and a resultant knee injury.

When such issues do develop, they tend to fall into one of the following categories: pain as a result of tendon or ligament injuries, pain which arises because of osteoarthritis, and that which is caused by patellofemoral syndrome—this is a condition in which the cartilage lying beneath the knee cap is somehow damaged.

At Home Workouts that Can Reduce Knee Pain, Remedy, Exercise

Depending on the severity of your knee pain, you of course may need to consult with a certified pain doctor. (don’t reference other specialities except to say a pain doctor will send you to other physicians if necessary) There are however things you can do at home, knee exercises you might try to help alleviate some of the pain you might be experiencing. It’s about focusing on knee strengthening and thus helping that joint to heal.

One such set of exercises involves a series of straight leg raises; lying flat on the floor, you slowly bend one knee, and keeping the other straight, lift it. It is recommended to start out gradually, doing only what you can handle, and be sure to switch legs. Another great exercise to help relieve some of that knee pain are wall squats. With this exercise, you begin with your back against the wall and assume an almost sitting position.  Bend your knees and then hold this stance for at least five seconds. With each one you do, try and hold it for a little longer.

Talk to your doctor, as he/she can give you a wide range of activities to try at home when it comes to knee pain remedy exercise.

If you’re searching for a “back doctor in NYC” or are unsure of what type of doctor do I see for back pain, look for pain doctors that offer back pain treatments in NYC that do not resort to surgery or narcotics to treat chronic pain.

Medical Treatments for Dealing with Knee Pain

As a pain treatment clinic staffed by world-class Ivy League doctors and featuring state-of-the-art equipment, Pain Treatment Specialists are invested in helping patients get their lives back, feel energized and invigorated, and resume a normal range of motion when it comes to their knees. Knee pain remedy exercise aside, there are things you can do, especially now with all of the scientific advances we have in this field, that may drastically reduce joint pain and help enhance the overall quality of your knees.

1)     Steroid Knee Injection. So what exactly is this procedure? A Steroid Knee Injection involves a соrtісоѕtеrоіd injected at the site of the pain in question. It provides significant pain relief; however, it is most often paired with a more comprehensive rehabilitation program in order to get the knee feeling better.

2)     Genicular Nerve Block (also known as a G Block). This treatment is used in cases of severe knee pain. It treats nerve issues and can also help determine pathologic changes within the joint itself.

3)     Physical Therapy. A highly comprehensive approach, with physical therapy, your entire leg gets assessed, after which point the therapist will then recommend a course of treatment in order to attain the best results for your knee.

4)     Iovera. A relatively new form of knee pain treatment, Iovera seeks to reduce the pain by essentially numbing the nerves. This is accomplished through a form of cryotherapy in which peripheral nerve endings are frozen.

5)     Arthrocentesis. With arthrocentesis, joint fluid is removed using a hollow needle. In this way, we are able to relieve pressure and thus pain from the injection site.

These are only a few of the treatments available. At Pain treatment Specialists, a proud member of VIP Medical Group,  we are 100% focused on your specific knee injury and/or problem. The above procedures may not necessarily work in your situation, and that is fine, because with all of the cutting edge procedures, medications and treatments available today, there is a solution out there for ending your individual knee and joint pain.

As one of the premiere pain doctors in NY, we take what we do very seriously. By starting with an evaluative consultation, we work to understand the underlying cause and source of your knee pain. Whether you suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, have experienced a traumatic sports injury, or perhaps are afflicted by some other such condition, we can devise a treatment program that makes sense for you and that leaves you feeling better about the overall quality of your life.
