Experiencing Knee Pain?

Side Effects of Physical Therapy

Overall, physical therapy is very safe and well tolerated, making it an excellent first line treatment option for a range of painful conditions:

Temporary Soreness/Discomfort – The most commonly experienced side effect is soreness or discomfort at the initiation of therapy.  This soreness is the result of stretching and strengthening muscles that have become deconditioned over time.  This is similar to the discomfort you might experience when starting a new exercise regimen.

Slower results  – Physical therapy is designed to strengthen muscles, improve range of motion and restore balance.  Results are often not immediate and it can be tempting to discontinue therapy pre-maturely.  Although it may take some time to see results, the benefits are often very effective and long lasting.
